Club Med Maldives

After being whisked by speedboat to Club Med Finolhu we were given a wonderful Maldivian welcome and walked down the long jetty which gives you the chance to just look around and take in what a beautiful place this is! Our home for the week was a beautiful sunrise beach villa (no 19) and our butler could not have been more friendly and helpful. The island only takes 100 guests when full so you really get a sense of space – relaxation is the key here. For scuba divers and snorkelers you will be in ore of what marine life is on offer, packages can be booked for scuba, the in house Euro divers are a great team. The food was superb, breakfast can be served in the villa or if you are feeling sociable in the restaurant, Motu. Lunch and Dinner were always different, the mix of Maldivian and Asian themes was a real hit for us (I even went to cookery class to learn how to make a Maldivian curry, it was that good!) The resort has a real blend of luxury with Maldivian charm, the different mix of international traveller’s makes an interesting chat at the bar.

Whilst staying at Finolhu we visited Kani (the other Club Med island about 10 min away) This is definitely the livelier island with the usual Club Med spirit in full swing. The water sports and diving centre are fantastic and the beaches are amazing. At 1km in length and 400m wide it’s nice to take a leisurely 20 min stroll from one end to the other to walk off lunch or dinner. The rooms are all spacious and many have recently been refurbished; the water villas are great offering guests a concierge department with your own lounge and a dedicated check in, great for honeymooners as they offer more privacy and are right by the water’s edge. We had dinner in the main buffet restaurant and in the a la carte; we particularly loved the buffet with lots of different choices from around the world. I would recommend Kani to families with older children wanting to experience the beautiful marine life on offer, there is a great vibe about this island.

I would highly recommend Club Med Finolhu for honeymooners and anyone who wants that exclusive island experience, and Kani for families or people in search of a livelier holiday. The Maldives really is the one place I will most definitely return to!
