Sardinia has been on my wish list for a while. I have heard so much about this sophisticated Italian island, so I jumped at the opportunity to visit the north coast and explore the variety of hotels that the Delphina group has to offer. It truly didn't disappoint; the island is stunning, and the range of accommodations available is impressive. From spa-focused resorts to family-friendly options, romantic getaways, as well as villas and apartments with hotel amenities - it offers a diverse selection that caters to different tastes, needs and budgets.
Sardinia has something for everyone......
Beach lovers
Sardinia boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, characterised by miles of white sands and crystal-clear aquamarine and emerald green waters. The landscapes are diverse, with other areas showcasing rugged cliffs, secluded coves, and charming harbours. Wherever you find yourself on the island, those stunning blue waters are always within reach. If you happen to be in the northeast part of Sardinia near Valle dell'Erica (where I stayed), consider taking a half-day boat trip to the La Maddalena Islands to visit 'Spiaggia Rosa,' a breath taking pink beach situated on Budelli Island!
Family focused
Sardinia is an ideal Mediterranean destination for a family holiday, with a short flight from the UK. It offers beautiful beaches with clear blue seas, family-friendly accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets, child-friendly restaurants, activities for the whole family, and welcoming Italian-style hospitality with a love for children.
Luxury
Sardinia is renowned for the Costa Smeralda, where you can discover stunning beaches, world-famous designer boutiques and jewellers, elegant restaurants, stylish bars, and famous nightspots that attract worldwide celebrities, royalty, and millionaires as it is the place to be seen during the summer months. There is also a variety of 5-star accommodations available.
Romantic
This beautiful and unspoiled island will captivate you with its breath taking scenery, translucent blue seas, white sandy beaches, and vibrant yet uncommercialized towns offering culture, history, and a wealth of gastronomic delights.
Spa
It is truly worth experiencing the al fresco Thalasso spa pools, built into the natural granite rocks set among scented myrtle and juniper bushes and surrounded by the sea. Essential oils from local plants and minerals from the seawater are used to provide you with a truly Sardinian spa experience. The Marinedda Hotel's spa is a beautiful light-filled space dedicated to Thalassotherapy, beauty, and a variety of wellness treatments. Choose a personalised wellness journey among heated seawater pools and rituals scented with the essence of Sardinia.
Food
Sardinian cookery is brimming with intense, fruity, and aromatic flavors, offering a unique twist on traditional Italian dishes by incorporating herbs, plants, and ingredients exclusive to the island. Make sure to include a visit to a typical Sardinian Agriturismo restaurant in your itinerary; these can be found scattered across the island. Picture enjoying homecooked pasta, locally roasted meats cooked over open fires, pastries stuffed with local pecorino cheese drizzled with honey, all accompanied by a glass of homemade Mirto (a traditional liqueur crafted from myrtle berries and infused with rosemary and juniper herbs - it's absolutely delicious) and local wines. I highly recommend trying the local red wine made from Cannonau grapes - it contains three times more antioxidants than regular red wine!
Active
With beautiful beaches and a mountainous interior, Sardinia offers a wide range of activities including watersports, golf, tennis, and horse riding. Cycling and walking holidays allow you to explore the stunning coast and countryside, interact with the local people, stay in family-run accommodations, venture off the beaten track, and experience authentic Sardinia.
Multi centre
Combine your trip with a visit to Italy's iconic cities such as Rome, Venice, and Florence or explore the islands of Sicily and Corsica. Corsica is visible from most locations along the North coast and is just a 50-minute boat ride away - that's another destination on my list!
